The Ring of Kerry PDF Print E-mail

The world renowed Ring of Kerry follows the coastline of the Iveragh peninsula and taking in some of the most beautiful spots in the country. Take the road towards Aghadoe and see an ancient round tower and then on through Killorglin where the famous Puck Fair is held each year in August. Beyond Glenbeigh and Rossbeigh you can see the peninsula of Dingle opposite, with the Blasket Islands before you in Dingle Bay. Follow the old disused railway line on to Cahersiveen passing the birthplace of the Liberator Daniel O Connell.

Next is Valentia Island and then Waterville where Charlie Chaplan is honoured with a stautue. At this point you may also opt to do the very scenic Skellig Ring and venture over to Valentia Island. As you leave Waterville look to your left and you will see above you the Eighter Cua the standing stones said to be the burial place of Scéine who gave her name to ‘Inbhéar Scéine’ now Kenmare River. Looking to your right as you wind up the hill you will set your eyes on the Skelligs. Be sure to stop at the pass at Coomakiste with it’s panoramic views on both sides. On the right below you is Derrynane Beach near where Daniel O Connell grew up and spent most of his life.

Descending to Caherdanielhead back towards Sneem, a picturesque town, sharing with Kenmare the honour of winning the National Tidy Towns Competition.

Parknasilla graces the shoreline just off the main road to Kenmare, and on by Molls Gap taking in Ladies View and the Lakes of Killarney before returning once more to Montrose.
