Historic Killarney:

Since the Bronze age (2,000 B.C.) there have been recordings of human occupation in the district. There is later evidence of monastic settlements such as those at Innsifallen Island. Ross Castle was the stronghold of the O’ Donoghues and Muckross House was a nineteenth century mansion now owned by the government and open to the public.
